Our Programs
SCC NMWA presents programs to build active and ongoing local support for women in the arts by:
v Sponsoring exhibitions of merit which showcase outstanding and emerging Southern California artists.
v Encouraging young women to develop their artistic talent through outreach programs to schools and community organizations.
v Developing education programs.
v Visiting artists' studios/galleries and meeting prominent women artists for lectures and discussions.
v Touring museums and private collections.
SCC NMWA has sponsored:
q Co-sponsor and co-organizer of Multiple Vantage Points exhibition February 25 – April 15, 2007 at the Municipal Art Gallery, Los Angeles, CA.
q The exhibition "Generation of Mentors" at NMWA which presented Southern California artists born in the first three decades of the 20th Century.
q The restoration of works of art at NMWA.
q The presentation of Southern California women artists at NMWA through their "From the Committees" program.
q The June Wayne exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) ; Andrea Kalinowski's Stories Untold and Lauren Greenfield's Girl Culture at the Skirball Cultural Center; and Family Legacies: The Art of Betye, Lezley and Alison Saar at the Pasadena Museum of California Art.
q The purchase of a June Wayne lithograph for LACMA.
q Invitational exhibition Shouts, Whispers and Cheers and educational seminars at Mt. St. Mary's College in Los Angeles.
q Co sponsorship of "Women Making It in the Arts" symposium at USC
q A summer student internship program at NMWA for a Southern California student.
q An art teacher and purchased teachers' aids and textbooks in Los Angeles Unified School District elementary district.
q Art project for Haven Hills.
Our programs have included:
q Studio tours to Venice, Malibu, Santa Barbara, Palm Desert, and Ojai.
q Travel programs to Washington DC, Santa Fe, NM, San Francisco, CA., Seattle/Tacoma, WA, and Mexico City, Mexico
