Who We Are

The Southern California Committee (SCC) is a nonprofit volunteer organization established in 1990 as a supporting organization for the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) in Washington, D.C..

NMWA opened in Washington, DC in 1987 and is the world's primary museum dedicated to bringing recognition to the achievements of women artists of all periods and nationalities. NMWA present exhibits; preserves, acquires and researches art by women; and educates the public to the accomplishments of women artists. NMWA develops and maintains a national directory of women artists.

Our Goal

It is SCC NMWA's goal to support the  National Museum of Women in the Arts and to increase public awareness of the work of Southern California's women artists locally and nationally.

SCC sponsored their first exhibit at NMWA in June, 1994, called "Generation of Mentors" which represented Southern California artists born in the first three decades of the 20th Century.
